People trapped after crane collapses in Crewe

Dunwoody Way is now closed at the junction with West Street near to Morrisons, Cheshire police said.

"A crane has collapsed, trapping three people underneath".

Two fire engines are at the scene.

Police said they rushed to the scene, a construction site in Dunwoody Way.

Firefighters were called to Phoenix Leisure Park on Dunwoody Way in Crewe shortly after 4.30pm on Wednesday.

The crane toppled over at around 4.30pm this afternoon, leaving people stuck underneath the wreckage.

The crane driver has already been airlifted to hospital, police confirmed.

Police have closed Dunwoody Way at the junction of West Street.

Cheshire Police refused to speculate on the cause of the crash, and said the moments immediately before the accident would form part of any future investigation.
