On Sunday, two officers responded to a call about a burglary at Charleena Lyles' home, as Crime Online recently reported. Lyles was shot and killed by police on Sunday after police say she came at them armed with a knife. The officers will be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, the police department said in its statement. Her family members say not only was she several months pregnant, but insist she was too "tiny" to be an actual threat to the police officers.

"There were several children inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured", it said.

Family members said Lyles had experienced mental health problems in the previous year and that she was several months pregnant, which BuzzFeed News couldn't immediately confirm. "Motherf--s", according to an audio recording of the incident released by the Seattle Police Department.

City policy calls for the police department to reveal the identities of officers involved in fatal shootings within 24 or 48 hours after the incident, according to spokesman Sean Whitcomb.

Seattle police confirmed that two boys and one girl, aged 11, 4, and 1, were in the apartment at the time of the shooting, and have since been given over to family members. "They are unharmed, they are being taken care of right now", he said.

Family members have questioned why police didn't use a non-lethal option when they knew Lyles had been struggling with mental health issues.

She was three months pregnant while in jail, family says. SPD officers are given the option of carrying a Taser, pepper spray or a baton as a less-than-lethal option.

Audio released of her emergency services call was reporting a burglary at her Magnuson Park apartment, a building for people transitioning out of homelessness.

The officers get her name then she invites them into her house to show them that some of her possessions were missing.

According to The Washington Post, Charleena Lyles called police to report a possible burglary.

Relatives wondered why police shot her instead of Tasering her.

"Do our lives really matter to them?"

"My thoughts are with the many people impacted, including three children and the responding officers", he said.

Following what seemed like a cordial exchange, the two officers mentioned previous calls to Lyles's home, including a June 5 incident described as a "physical domestic disturbance". A cousin of a mother who was shot and killed by Seattle police has questioned why.

The officers talked about the woman previously having large metal shears, trying to prevent officers from leaving her apartment and making "weird statements" about her and her daughter turning into wolves. Two officers fired, killing her. At 9:38, one of the officers' arms can be seen in the doorway. He said she was depressed but not violent and "was going through some things in her life".

In a 2012 Department of Justice investigation, the Seattle police specifically have been found to routinely engaged in excessive use of force, often against people with mental or substance abuse problems.

Much about the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear.

In April, the monitor overseeing court-ordered reforms issued a glowing report saying that the use of force by officers had declined dramatically and hailing the department as a "model of policing for the 21 century". However, officers need to decide if they have time to use those weapons of if they have to resort to lethal force.
