Robert F. Kennedy assassin stabbed in prison

Kennedy, was hospitalized Friday after being stabbed by a fellow inmate at a San Diego prison.

The statement did not name the victim, but a government source with direct knowledge confirmed to that it was Sirhan.

TMZ reports Sirhan was stabbed in one of the prison yards around 2:30 p.m.

Sirhan's next hearing is slated for February 2021.

The man who assassinated presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy in 1968 has been stabbed at the Southern California prison where he lives, according to TMZ and reported by several other outlets.

Kennedy was shot and gravely wounded shortly after midnight June 5, 1968, after a speaking to supporters at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.

Kennedy had just finished delivering his victory speech to cheering supporters at Los Angeles' Ambassador Hotel when he chose to walk through the hotel kitchen.

Corrections officials told the Times the suspect in the attack had been identified and segregated from the rest of the prison population while they investigated. Kennedy, 42, died early the next day. In April 1969, Sirhan was convicted and sentenced to death penalty. Three years later, however, his sentence was commuted to life in prison when California briefly outlawed capital punishment. He has been denied parole 15 times, the Times reports.

Sirhan, who was 24 at the time of the assassination, said that he could not remember shooting Kennedy.

Many high-profile prisoners like him are housed in protecting custody, however Sirhan had instructed jail officers a number of years in the past that he needed to be positioned within the common jail inhabitants.
