The NCAA announced Tuesday that the 2022 men's hockey championship will be played at TD Garden.
The exact dates for the Regionals will be announced at a later time.
All events will take place in Happy Valley, with the exception of the 2018 and 2019 NCAA Men's Hockey Midwest Regionals, which will instead be played at Allentown's PPL Center. As a result Penn State now enters a unique window of opportunity, the Nittany Lions coming up just shy of their first Frozen Four appearance this season, and now looking at the potential for home ice advantage in consecutive postseasons with a friendly Frozen Four and NCAA Title venue within a reasonable five year window.
The NCAA has yet to announce regional sites beyond 2019.
While some may wonder why the Midwest regional is being held in a town that is a couple of hours drive from New York City, it makes sense in the college hockey universe.
"The entire Hockey East family is thrilled to once again be hosting the Frozen Four with our friends from TD Garden", said Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna in a statement.
