A few airlines have shown confidence in Boeing's once best-selling 737 MAX jet since the fatal crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia, which killed 346 people. But Boeing's orders and deliveries have tumbled this year - falling far behind Airbus - while it faces investigations and has suspended deliveries of the Max.
Among other U.S. MAX operators, Southwest Airlines Co LUV.N so far has cancelled flights through October 1 and American Airlines Group AAL.O through September 3, though those timelines are also likely to be extended.
Boeing's first half aircraft deliveries dropped 37 percent as the grounding of the 737 MAX continues to impact the company. "Doing so would preserve the handshake agreement and special relationship with Boeing, the value of its existing MAX 8 aircraft, and the value of its massive order for additional MAX 8 aircraft". Boeing received a letter of intent from International Airlines Group for the purchase of 200 737 Max aircraft earlier this month. The planes are stacking up at the rate of 42 per month and it looks like deliveries are not about to resume anytime soon.
Boeing announced on Tuesday that it delivered 239 commercial airplanes between January and June.
The deal with Airbus is worth $5.5 billion at list prices, although discounts are common.

The Roey Hotel employee Cindy said she saw cars moving in the quake . "A few things fell off the walls onto the floors", she said. And more aftershocks are to be expected, Phil Cummins, a geologist at Government's GeoScience Australia, warned.
"I think the relationship between Southwest and Boeing is unique", Bathaee said.
Airbus posted 88 net orders for the first half, easily outpacing Boeing which had a negative net total of 119 aircraft because it had more cancellations than orders during the period. The cancellation itself is a small dent in Boeing's backlog for the bestselling 737, including the Max version.
Saudi Arabian Airlines booked its Airbus order at the Paris Air Show last month as part of 100 planes it plans to buy from Airbus, according to Sunday's statement from the carrier.
The Flyadeal A320neo will be delivered from 2021 to join the A320ceo now used by Saudi Arabia's airline.
The big problem remains to fix the anti-stall system and other newly discovered problems on the 737 MAX so that the company can deliver jets that it now has parked near its facilities in Everett, Washington, and San Antonio, Texas.
