It has not been positively identified, but police believe it could be that of the Mathews' adopted daughter, 3-year-old Sherin.

Mathews, 37, changed his story about the incident during a meeting on Monday with his attorney and detectives, according to police documents.

Mathews' daughter, Sherin, went missing in the early hours of October 7, after Wesley left her outside in an alleyway - allegedly frequented by coyotes - because she didn't drink her milk. The body of a small child was found in a culvert near their home in suburban Dallas Monday.

Mathews was initially charged with abandoning or endangering a child when he first reported Sherin missing.

"A lot of people have been saying that it's actually very impressive the way Texas police have been following up this case, and have not believed the father's story from the outset, and they went ahead and searched for the child", she says. He also told the police that he knew coyotes had been seen in the alley where he left his daughter. Bond was set at $1 million, Richardson police Sgt. Kevin Perlich said. He told officers she began choking. The cause of death was still pending, the Richardson Police Department posted on its verified Facebook page, citing the Dallas County Medical Examiners Office.

Television station WFAA reported that a vigil was held for Sherin at the spot where her body was found on Sunday. On Monday, she came to court trying to regain custody of her four-year-old biological daughter who Child Protective Services placed in foster care after Sherin vanished. He said she was gone when he returned 15 minutes later and then, he went inside to do laundry, waiting for sunrise so he could continue searching for the little girl. Meanwhile the Nalanda district collector reportedly ordered a probe whether all norms were followed by Wesley Mathews and his wife Sini when they adopted the girl from an orphanage, Mother Teresa Ananth Seva Ashram at Nalanda. She was coughing and her breathing slowed.

He said he "physically assisted" the girl in drinking her milk, then she started to choke, and eventually he could no longer feel a pulse.

Sherin, who had developmental issues and limited verbal communication skills, was confirmed dead by the United States police Tuesday after over two weeks of investigation.

Mathews admitted to investigators that he removed the body from the home. A judge postponed the hearing until November 13 - in the meantime the couple's oldest daughter will remain in foster care until that hearing or until ordering a change in custody.
