That evening, Mathews was arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child, "as a result of his decision to place her outside a place of safety", Richardson police posted to Facebook.
Earlier on Monday, the police department said they had "most likely" found the body of Sherin Mathews from a culvert near her home in Richardson.
"Wesley Mathews said she wouldn't listen to him", according to the warrant. His bond was set at $1 million.
The little girl's identity was confirmed by the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office through dental records and her mother Sini Mathews confirming the child's clothing. Eventually, the 3-year-old girl began to drink her milk.

In the back of your mind you're always prepared for it, but you're not always ready for it". "He has been an ironman", he said. I think I was enough of a realist to understand that I wasn't going to be able to continue on forever without missing a play.
Mathews told police he had seen coyotes in the alley near where he told his daughter to stand, the affidavit said. He previously had been charged with child abandonment and endangerment the day she was reported missing, but had been released on bail, the Dallas Morning News reported.
An arrest warrant obtained by WFAA in Dallas Tuesday details the conflicting story that led to the re-arrest of Sherin Mathews' father, Wesley Mathews.
Wesley Mathews had said that he made his adopted daughter Sherin Mathews stand outside near a tree at 3 a.m.as punishment more than two weeks ago for not drinking her milk, and that she disappeared, CNN reported. The couple described a special diet regimen that required her to eat whenever she was awake, in order to help her gain weight.
On Monday, Mathews and his wife, Sini, attended a court hearing to determine if they could maintain custody of their biological daughter.
Last week, police seized several items from Wesley's house and also collected DNA swabs from their vehicles. A judge said Monday that the girl will remain in foster care until a custody hearing in November. "We can begin looking into those relatives, but it is entirely up to the judge where she is placed". Mathews said he decided at that point to do laundry while he waited for daylight to look for the girl or for her to return.
It was Mathews's second arrest in the case.
