The attacker, who remains at large, is believed to have used a chainsaw, unconfirmed reports say.
An unkempt man armed with a chainsaw wounded five people Monday at an office building in the northern Swiss city of Schaffhausen and then fled, police said.
Witnesses posted footage on social media showing the area in complete lockdown, while some people reported being barricaded in shops as Schaffhausen went into lockdown.
The town center was cordoned off in the morning after police were alerted.
