United States President Donald Trump in a string of tweets asserted his presidential pardoning powers, after The Washington Post reported that Attorney General Jeff Sessions spoke about Trump's presidential campaign in meetings with the Russian ambassador past year. Trump can give Sessions the metaphorical axe anytime he wants, although under typical political circumstances, a scathing criticism of the sort he voiced to The New York Times would probably be enough to induce a resignation. The Post is a favorite punching bag of the president's.
One obvious fear of Mr. Trump's is that Mr. Mueller will be able to pry open those Trump income tax returns he has flatly declined to release as presidential candidate and now Oval Office occupant.
"I have come to the point where I no longer put any stock in headlines or breaking news", Coats said when asked about the report during an event at the forum. "And by the way, you can also call those senators to make sure you get health care".
The president's 17-minute speech aboard the naval vessel, as well as his frenzied social media assertions came as Trump is struggling to stabilize his presidency, just six months in.
The president said that if he had known Sessions would recuse himself from the Russian Federation investigation, he "would have picked someone else" for the attorney general job.
Now that he is attorney general - and has stated he does not intend to resign - Sessions needs to tell the public his views on the appropriate relationship between the Justice Department and the White House.
"Pardons are not being discussed and are not on the table", Jay Sekulow a member of President Trump's legal team, told ABC News. This past week, the Special Counsel expanded his investigation to include Trump's business transactions with Russians and also those of his associates.
Currently, the discussions of pardoning authority by Trump's legal team are purely theoretical, according to two people familiar with the ongoing conversations.

Diesel engines, however, have higher nitrogen oxide emission which harms human health and sulfur which harms the environment. Liaison between the companies is said to date back as far as the 1990s and could have involved more than 200 people.
The Washington Post had earlier carried a story on the limits of the pardoning powers of the US president.
"While all agree the U.S. President has the complete power to pardon, why think of that when only crime so far is LEAKS against us.FAKE NEWS", he tweeted.
Trump ended the tweet with "Tax Reform and Infrastructure".
CBSNews has confirmed American intelligence intercepted Russian reports claiming Sessions discussed "campaign-related matters" with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the 2016 presidential election. "These illegal leaks, like Comey's, must stop!" he wrote.
The senator said he was unsure about when that should happen and whether it should be before or after the committee hears closed-door testimony from former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Donald Trump Jr., the president's son.
According to the Washington Post, Russia's Ambassador to the USA told his superiors in Moscow that he had met with Sessions twice to discuss matters related to the Trump election campaign.
"I should not be involved in any campaign investigation", Sessions said in March, denying ever talking about the campaign when he recused himself from the investigation. But he and some of his top aides have hired private criminal defense lawyers to deal with the probe.
