Donald Trump has complained about a Washington Post report that the Russian ambassador to the USA said he discussed election-related issues with attorney general Jeff Sessions when the men met during the 2016 presidential race.
Mr Sessions has recently become a lightning rod for Mr Trump's anger over the probe into allegations of Russia's meddling in the 2016 election.
The president has long criticised leaks of information about the investigation and has urged authorities to prosecute anyone found to be responsible. Trump's lawyers have been discussing the president's pardoning powers, a second person told the newspaper. "It's just not true", he said. Bloomberg reported that these include Russian purchases of condos in Trump buildings, his work on a SoHo development with a mob-affiliated real estate firm, the 2013 Miss Universe contest he held in Moscow, and his 2008 sale of a Florida mansion to a Russian oligarch.
In response to reporting from The New York Times, Trump Jr. posted emails on Twitter earlier this month showing him setting up a meeting with a Russian attorney previous year through an acquaintance in hopes of potentially receiving damaging information on Hillary Clinton.
The two men have agreed to handover records and documents related to ongoing Russian Federation investigation and they have agreed to be privately interviewed by members of the Senate.

The president's eldest son and the former Trump campaign chairman will instead "provide the [Senate Judiciary Committee] with documents and be interviewed by committee members and staff prior to a public hearing", according to the release.
While the investigation continues into Trump associates' ties to the Russian government, Schiff says that Mr. Trump himself is "clearly worried" about the direction special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation is going, amid comments the president made about Attorney General Jeff Sessions' decision to recuse himself from the investigation.
"Glenn Simpson, through his attorney, has declined to voluntarily attend Wednesday's Judiciary Committee hearing regarding compliance with the Foreign Agents Registration Act". The White House said the December meeting was to establish "a line of communication".
One update submitted before July added a name that was previously left out - that of Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, who met with Trump Jr., Kushner and Paul Manafort in June 2016. The five times he tweeted about policy, the president referenced interstate insurance sales, drug pricing, deductible and premium prices, past inaccuracies of reports from the Congressional Budget Office and Medicaid spending.
