Boeing's 737-10 launch was by any measure a big success and, even without a new airplane to sell, Airbus had a better show this year than it did last year at the Farnborough Airshow in Britain. The company suggested much of the interest in the MAX 10 was from existing Boeing customers switching orders from other models. Nearly 40% of the planes will go to customers in Asia, driven heavily by booming air traffic in China.
Boeing's head of airplane developments meanwhile said he was "very optimistic" about the chances of establishing the business case for a mid-market jet project to open up new routes from the middle of the next decade. "We're proud that United's 777-300ER fleet continues to grow".

"I think that this will be a down year for Airbus and Boeing in terms of orders but not in deliveries", Leahy stated. The order is valued at more than $1.1 billion at current list prices. Declining demand for A380s has also seen Airbus recently contemplate slowing down production of its plane. By contrast, Airbus officials insist the market for its big, four-engine plane will recover.
Boeing won an endorsement from United Airlines for the latest model of its best-selling 737 jet as it struck an upbeat tone on Tuesday, raising its 20-year industry demand forecast despite recent signs of a slowdown. So far, those efforts have yielded no tangible results.
