- Amor Ftouhi, the man charged with stabbing an airport security officer in Flint, tried to buy a gun at the Gibraltar Trade Center in Mt. Clemens shortly after arriving in the US on Friday, FOX 2's M.L. Elrick reports.

A day after the stabbing, the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced Ftouhi unsuccessfully tried to buy a gun in the US before the attack, but was able to buy a knife in the country. As early as Sunday, Ftouhi had arrived in MI where he is confirmed by House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul to have attempted to purchase a gun once in the Flint area.

Dave Gelios, the lead FBI investigator in the case, told a news conference there is still no evidence Ftouhi has ties to any organization connected with the stabbing.

The maintenance worker, who was not identified, jumped in and helped restrain the attacker, who allegedly assaulted airport police officer Lt. Jeff Neville outside the airport's TSA screening area Wednesday morning, Lt. Dan Owen of the airport Fire Department said Thursday. He's accused of stabbing airport police Lt. Jeff Neville after yelling "Allahu akbar", the Arabic phrase for "God is great". The charge now pending against him could put him in jail for up to 20 years. The Tunisian was quiet, he said, adding that Ftouhi worked as a part-time caretaker of the property. He was hospitalised and is in a stable condition.

Police investigators walk into the residence of Amor Ftouhi, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on June 21, 2017.

A man described as a quiet and kind, Ftouhis suspected sinister actions underline how hard it is to pinpoint aspiring terrorists, Deparice-Okomba said. The 49-year-old originally from Tunisia lived in a two-bedroom apartment with his wife and children and "never made any trouble", Luciano Piazza said.
