She's now officially the greatest actress on Broadway this season as Bette Midler picked up the 2017 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical.

"Dear Evan Hansen", starring 23-year-old Ben Platt in a breakout - and knockout - performance, took six awards Sunday evening at Radio City Music Hall, including best musical and best actor for Platt.

Other winners of the night included Kevin Kline for Best Actor in a Play for his work in the revival of "Present Laughter", and Cynthia Nixon with the second Tony of her career for Best Featured Actress in a play in the revival of Lillian Hellman's "The Little Foxes".

Michael Aronov was a surprise victor for his lively featured actor performance as an Israeli negotiator in "Oslo", J.T. Rogers' behind-the-scenes look at the 1993 Middle East peace accords.

Michael Greif has now helmed two Best Musical champs ("Rent" and "Dear Evan Hansen") without winning Best Director. Spacey now plays ruthless politician Frank Underwood in the Netflix series "House of Cards". Her work in the revival of "Hello, Dolly" has led to millions of dollars in pre-sale tickets (and therefore also no surprise it also banked the Best Revival of a Musical award).

"My love, my gratitude and my undying respect go out to all the people in 2017 who are refusing to just stand and watch them do it". Experts had predicted a win by Danny DeVito for "The Price".

The show's comedy had zings for Democrats and Republicans alike, with Colbert mocking President Donald Trump as if he were a show from Washington with bad hair and makeup that will be "closing early" due to poor reviews.

Hosted by Kevin Spacey, the Tony show played special tribute to the American playwrights whose shows had been nominated for best play this year-another reminder that Broadway is going in exciting directions. Performing the song, "I'd Give My Life For You", Noblezada was joined on stage by Alistair Brammer who plays the role of her son, Chris. He also dusted off his impressions of Johnny Carson and President Bill Clinton, and he even made an appearance as his House of Cards character Frank Underwood toward the end of the night. Throughout out her decadeslong career in show business, the singer-songwriter-actor-comedian won several Grammys and Emmys, leaving her one letter away from the coveted EGOT designation. Enamored of "Hello, Dolly!" since college, he says directing the show has been "a lifelong dream come true".

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom helped Spacey out with commercial lead-ins and fun zingers-after one performance, she said she was "approaching orgasm".
