Sixers make Fultz top pick, Lakers snag Ball second

Despite Washington's 9-22 record last season, Fultz stood out as one of the best players in the country.

Markelle Fultz is a self-described hard worker and that diligence paid dividends Thursday (Friday in Manila) as the Philadelphia 76ers made him the first overall pick in the 2017 National Basketball Association entry draft. The Sixers gave up conditional future draft picks for Pasecniks, a 7-1 center, who could be stashed overseas and continue to develop before he is brought over. The 6-foot-4 Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds for the Huskies. Fultz joins a Sixers team still deep in "The Process", with players like Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Jahlil Okafor making up their young core. Nevertheless, statements that were issued from the heart of the franchise affirmed that they would select in pick 3 the same player they would have chosen with the first pick of the Draft.

The Sixers made four picks in the second round: UCLA and Australian forward Jonah Bolden; Oklahoma State guard Jawun Evans, SMU guard Sterling Brown and power forward Mathias Lessort out of France.

Boston, the first team to trade the number one pick before or during the first round of the draft in 24 years, used the third overall pick to add small forward Jayson Tatum of Duke, one of the most polished scorers in college basketball.

The players don't get much of a say in which team they play for, but that didn't stop Lavar Ball from saying his son would play for no one but the Lakers. However, when they came up with the slogan "Trust The Process" during the 2014 National Basketball Association season, it gave Philly fans something to look forward to despite all of the doubt.

A night that's usually about the rookies quickly was jolted by another of the big moves involving veterans that have come in a flurry since the NBA Finals.

Lakers GM describes Lonzo Ball as a 'transcendent talent'
Love him or hate him, you can not help but hate-watch the walking-talking BBB billboard of 24-7 marketing, hype and social media savvy in LaVar.

Another global player was tabbed next as the New York Knicks selected French guard Frank Ntilikina, a talented 18-year-old who has defensive skills to match a solid offensive game.

Kennard turned pro after averaging 19.5 points a game during his sophomore season.

Sacramento sent Portland the 10th pick (forward Zach Collins) for the 15th (forward Justin Jackson) and 20th picks (center Harry Giles).

NY is conveniently located between both cities and 76ers fans have made the trip here frequently over the last couple years as their team has had high picks - including the No. 1 choice the last two years.

Part of me likes to imagine that he did it himself, and he's got a little bit of a blogger in him.

Boston Celtics will have the third pick, followed by the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, Orlando Magic and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
