But last night, Republican Karen Handel was able to declare victory over Democrat Jon Ossoff.

The road to a Democratic House majority runs through dozens of districts similar to the affluent, well-educated northern suburbs of Atlanta where Ossoff was defeated, and the outcome there is likely to reassure Republicans already nervous about their chances of holding control under Trump next year. That could be a tough pill for many Democrats to swallow.

BENNETT: That's New York Congressman Joe Crowley. In the aftermath of the Ossoff loss, quite a few Democrats have reached the conclusion that they need more of a message than just positioning themselves as anti-Trump or continuing to bang on about Russian Federation, the Washington Post and other news outlets have reported.

In Georgia's 6th District, the Democrat candidate Rodney Stooksbury spent nothing and won 124,917 votes in November of 2016. As Dave Weigel wrote in the Washington Post, "The ad strategy, and the campaign visit from Republicans such as House Speaker Paul Ryan, have had nearly nothing to say about what Republicans were working on in Washington".

The election was grueling, but Handel came out victorious. There, they fared better than most observers had foreseen. That's not a winner's mentality. "It should be a wake-up call for Democrats". Though Democrats had had high hopes, in the end, the race turned out somewhat competitive, with Handel winning by 3.8 percentage points.

She acknowledged the attacks but added: "I think I'm worth the trouble". That drew criticism of Pelosi from fellow Democrats. Moulton is a 38-year-old Iraq war veteran elected to Congress in 2014.

"I hope we're going to surprise you with a really good plan". You're responsible for everything your platoon does or fails to do. "It's clear, that I think, across the board in the Democratic Party, we need new leadership".

He told local media that he believed arson is the origin of the fires as there were fire reports before the dry lightning struck the trees.

According to Univision's analysis, the election "had been raised as a sort of referendum on the early months of Donald Trump in the White House", but the demise of the young Democrat showed that the recovery of the ground lost by the party against the Republicans will not be that easy.

"Clearly, we're coming off an election, and she's been getting pounded now for 10 years with negative ads from the Republicans".

For a little over an hour, the President worked to convince the crowd of supporters - some of whom donned "Make America Great Again" hats and held signs - that his administration is making "tremendous progress" back in Washington. That's why Nancy Pelosi and her allies are pouring millions into his campaign.

I'm reading a lot of complaints about the Ossoff campaign this morning. And everybody knows where I stand on this. He tried and failed last fall to unseat Pelosi as House minority leader.

BENNETT: Pelosi still has broad support among House Democrats.

The House Democratic leader is seeking to reassure Democrats dejected after a loss in a Georgia special election where the party invested millions of dollars. The one Democratic district is still Democratic.

That's the kind of thing that needs to happen under our gerrymandered political map for Democrats to flip the 24 seats they need to take control of the House.
