Flint, Michigan airport evacuated after police officer stabbed

"Ftouhi walked up to a fully uniformed police officer at a publicly accessible area of the airport, yelled "Allahu Akbar, ' pulled out a knife and stabbed the officer in the neck", Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Thomas Sondgeroth wrote in a criminal complaint".

Officials increased security at Flint City Hall, including additional police officers, in "an abundance of caution", the statement said. As of Wednesday evening, Neville was listed in satisfactory condition.

The attack just before 10 a.m.at Bishop International Airport prompted an evacuation and extra security elsewhere in the MI city about 50 miles northwest of Detroit.

No one else was injured, but the airport was shut down so the FBI could conduct a thorough investigation of the facility.

The FBI says they have no credible information of any threat right now to the Flint area. "My thoughts and prayers are with all of our law enforcement officers who work to service and protect us each and every day".

Officials did not release any details on the suspect, NBC news reported.

Shaw identified the officer who was stabbed is Lt. Jeff Neville with the Bishop International Airport police. Brown said he saw a man detained by police and a knife on the ground. Mr Neville retired from that department as a lieutenant.

The airport first announced on Facebook that there was an "incident" at around 10:00 a.m. ET.

He was originally described as being in a critical condition, according to Michigan State Police, but his condition has been upgraded to stable since he underwent surgery.

A witness told local news outlet MLive that he saw a man in custody and an officer bleeding from the neck.

The victim wrestled the attacker to the ground after the assault, police said.

She and another witness say they saw the airport officer bleeding from his neck. He will get a court-appointed attorney and court spokesman David Ashenfelter said he will remain in custody until a bond hearing next Wednesday.
