Rep. Scalise, wounded in Va. shooting, in fair condition -hospital

MedStar Washington Hospital Center said Wednesday morning that Scalise, R-Jefferson, "is beginning an extended period of healing and rehabilitation".

The Louisiana Republican arrived at the hospital last week in critical condition after being injured in the shooting that interrupted a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.

The Congressional Baseball Game raised over $1.5 million for charities including The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, The Nationals Dream Foundation and The Washington Literacy Center.

Ryan identified the others shot as Tyson Foods lobbyist Matt Mika and Zack Barth, a staffer for Rep. Roger Williams, a Texas Republican.

"At this early stage we are working with the emergency services and authorities in order to provide the necessary assistance". Firefighters were called to Phoenix Leisure Park on Dunwoody Way in Crewe shortly after 4.30pm on Wednesday.

Federal Bureau of Investigation officials said Hodgkinson acted alone and had checked if it were Republicans or Democrats practicing at the field in Alexandria, Virginia prior to shooting.

House Speaker Paul Ryan says the congressman grievously injured in last week's shooting at a Republican baseball practice is "on the road to recovery" but it will take some time. Scalise, 51, was struck in the hip and the bullet shattered blood vessels, bones and internal organs along the way. He has required several surgeries for a reported gunshot wound to the hip.

James T. Hodgkinson was killed by police after he shot four people at a congressional baseball game. The House Majority Whip "received many units of blood transfusion for ongoing hemorrhage from multiple locations".
