Congressional Black Caucus turns down Trump invitation

The Congressional Black Caucus will likely decline an invitation to meet with President Donald Trump who has failed to help advance their goals.

Members were reportedly put off by the invitation, coming from White House aide Omarosa Manigault, formerly a reality TV personality.

Donald Trump, who to date still appears to not even have read a book about how the federal government works, famously embarrassed himself when asked about the Congressional Black Caucus in February.

Politico notes the overly grandiose title turned off members, as she hasn't earned it and has done nothing to elevate the CBC's concerns to Trump.

I spent five years working as a lawyer in the US Senate, and we routinely used "The Honorable" when sending letters to other members of Congress, cabinet secretaries, judges and similarly situated people.

Per Politico's sources, the CBC is citing Trump's lack of action to address the caucus's priorities that were laid out during the first meeting.

Also, the lawmakers are concerned that the president will just use the whole thing as a photo-op, with one aide saying, "No one wants to be a co-star on the reality show".

"We have voiced all of these concerns in various forms, majority in writing, but have heard nothing from you or your Cabinet officials", Richmond wrote, listing the CBC's letters to Trump and members of his administration, and a 130-page policy document, "We have a Lot to Lose". "Through an objective assessment, we have seen no evidence that your Administration acted on our calls for action, and we have in fact witnessed steps that will affirmatively hurt Black communities". The CBC has no interest in wasting time hanging around the Trump circus.

"The CBC, and the millions we represent have a lot to lose under your Administration", Richmond said.
