On the day the BJP announced Ram Nath Kovind as the NDA's presidential nominee, its alliance partner Shiv Sena today said the party will come out with its "final decision" tomorrow. "If someone is trying to make a Dalit a President with the objective of gaining a vote bank then we are not with them", Thackeray said while addressing party workers on the Shiv Sena's 51st foundation day.

Sena has never indulged in the politics of hiding behind someone.

"If we suggest a name of the candidate then they (opposition) will think that the name has already been finalised. We are always standing solidly behind the farming community", said Thackeray.

The oldest and most prominent ally of the BJP, Thackeray told Shah on Sunday that his party would take a decision only after the BJP's Presidential nominee was named.

In the past, the Shiv Sena had deviated from supporting NDA candidates on at least two occasions - during the elections of former President Pratibha Patil and later the current President Pranab Mukherjee for whom it pitched for a second term. Sena has 63 MLAs.

This is the first time the top leader of ruling BJP has clearly spelt their stand on sporting ties with the neighbouring country. The Congress-led UPA has 15 MPs from the state in both the Houses of Parliament.

Reacting sharply to this, Thackeray said "if they (BJP) have so much money, they should give it to the farmers and clear their debts". It added, "Shah sought the support of the Shiv Sena for the Presidential polls and reassured Thackeray that the Shiv Sena would be taken into confidence while determining the candidate for the most coveted post in the country". "But, if the situation arises, we will not run away from the battleground and contest the election and win it".

It said that BJP was it is backing (J&K chief minister) Mehbooba Mufti, who in turn, keeps making reckless statements. If anyone is so boisterous then let them hold mid-term elections. The BJP Parliamentary board will meet on Monday to discuss nominees for the July 17 Presidential election, informed sources said. "Be liberal in giving aid to farmers", he said.
