Trump scraps Obama-era program protecting undocumented parents

"The rescinded policy also provided expanded work authorization for recipients under the DACA program for three years versus two years".

Individuals who fall under the "Dreamer" designation, as defined by President Obama, are children of undocumented immigrants who came to the USA not by their own choosing. Even so, some Dreamers have been deported, most notably 23-year-old Juan Manuel Montes, who had lived in the USA since age 9 and had an active DACA permit.

This reflects the administration's shift to harsher immigration raids that have separated parents from their children, prompting some city officials to declare themselves "sanctuary cities" for undocumented people in opposition to President Trump's draconian immigration policies. Immigration activists initially celebrated the milestone but then backpedaled after the administration clarified that the program protecting young undocumented immigrants could still be shut down at some point. In the months following his election, Trump began to waver on DACA.

Many DACA participants arrived in the United States as small children and have little recollection of their birth countries. DACA allows these young, undocumented immigrants to obtain work permits and drivers licenses, and protects them from deportation. The objective of the Thursday announcement, the administration explained, was to clarify that immigrants enrolled in the DACA program would not immediately be affected by a separate action that officially ended a similar program - DAPA - for illegal immigrants whose children are citizens or legal permanent residents.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said the DAPA program was being rescinded because there was "no credible path forward" to litigate on the policy.

"We hope President Trump now will keep his entire promise by ordering an end to the Obama Administration's other unconstitutional amnesty, the DACA program which continues to issues new work permits to those here illegally", Chmielenski said.

And while he doesn't work for Microsoft directly, Sanders owns a recruitment agency which specialises in game industry talent. Unfortunately, it's unclear when PC and Xbox One players will be able to get their hands on this Horizon Zero Dawn-like game.

But as president, he has said his administration was devising a policy on how to deal with individuals covered by DACA. While DACA remains in effect, she continues to advise those applying for the first time that there are risks - including that information collected by the program could ultimately be used to find and deport them.

The program, which could have affected as many as 4 million people in the United States, had never gone into effect after an appeals court halted its implementation.

The DACA program impacts around 800,000 young immigrants in the United States. Arrests of immigrants inside the US have increased under the Trump administration, but deportations are slightly down as fewer people have been caught crossing the Mexican border into the United States illegally.

But that doesn't mean Dreamers can rest east.

Upon taking office in January, Trump has been coy as to whether he would seek to remove "dreamers" from the U.S.
