Top environment officials from the Group of Seven wealthy democracies met Sunday in Italy amid ongoing differences between the US and other members of the club over how to deal with climate change.
The other six countries in the G-7 all agreed at last month's political summit of national leaders in Sicily to work toward making the Paris climate accord effective.

Earlier, Environment Minister Catherine McKenna told reporters that Canada would be "strong on climate action at the G20".

Expectations for the G-7 talks were already low, given Mr Trump's decision on June 1 to withdraw from the Paris agreement that was signed in 2015 by nearly 200 nations. Under the pact, the United States - the world's second biggest carbon emitter behind China - had committed to reduce its emissions by 26-28 percent from 2005 levels by 2025.
