The previous record was just over $85 million, and was held by Fifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson. But as X-Men's Storm approached her to fight, Wonder Woman dropped Mjolnir: She only wanted a fair fight.

Superhero movie fans who were hoping for more female-led films in the future can breathe a sigh of relief and pride thanks to these box office numbers. It earned $122.5 million internationally, including $38 million in China.
Coming in second at the box office was another new release, "Captain Underpants", which took in $23.9 million, according to Exhibitor Relations. Given this weekend's box office success, a sequel announcement is probably isn't too far behind.
"The Gods have seen fit to bless us with Wonder Woman", she wrote on Twitter.
