Tottenham Hotspurs' fading title hopes took a massive hit as West Ham edged the Lilywhites 1-0 in their English Premier League encounter thanks to a 65th-minute strike from Manuel Lanzini at the London Stadium on Friday.
Mauricio Pochettino felt something was lacking from Tottenham's performance in Friday's 1-0 defeat at West Ham and admitted afterwards: "If you want to be a champion, these are games you have to win".
Lanzini's goal, his third in four appearances against Spurs, guaranteed West Ham's survival with two games to spare.
The Hammers relied on some great goalkeeper from Spanish shot-stopper Adrian and a Manuel Lanzini goal to leave Spurs four points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.

Kelly Oubre suspended for Game 4 after charging at Kelly Olynyk
Olynyk knocked him to the ground on an illegal screen, and Oubre leapt to his feet, sprinted at him and bowled him over. Unlike in the opening two games, those players kept Thomas from finding a rhythm and Boston's attack suffered.
"I think it wasn't our best day".
At the former London Olympic Stadium made famous by the likes of Mo Farah and Usain Bolt, a 10th successive league win for Tottenham would have put them one point behind Chelsea but they stumbled over one of their final hurdles. This was a key moment.
Last season, Spurs had travelled to Upton Park needing a victory to take them above Leicester in the final weeks of the season but found a Hammers team which raised their game for the occasion - and it was an nearly a carbon copy of those proceedings a year later. Second half we started a little bit sloppy and we conceded a little bit more space. But for the second year in a row, the team's title bid has faltered in the closing weeks of the season. "We tried and I am very proud of my team - but it was a game that was hard".
West Ham now have 42 points, as well as are mathematically risk-free from relegation. "With Mousa we lose and we win with different players". Tottenham's calls for the match to be replayed were rejected, and an Environmental Health investigation found the hotel where the team had stayed had no case to answer over the food served to the players.
It should also take the heat off of manager Slaven Bilic whose position has come under pressure this season despite steering West Ham to seventh previous year.
