"Perez, the newly-elected chairman whose victory was seen as an affront to many Sanders supporters who backed Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota's chairman candidacy, told the crowd that the DNC will be doing more to ‶earn your trust" and will focus on rebuilding after the party's unexpected losses in 2016. Independent U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders gained roars of approval from a friendly crowd on Monday, April 17, 2017, as he called for a radical transformation of the Democratic Party into a grassroots movement founded on the tenets of his unsuccessful Democratic presidential campaign: fighting against the billionaire class and rigged economic and political systems.

The line to get into the free event stretched from the event center at 235 N. 500 West around the block to 600 West, and people started arriving as early as 5:30 a.m.to ensure they could get inside.

SCOTT DETROW, BYLINE: Hey, Ari.

"If Democrats think the path forward following the 2016 election is to support candidates who substitute their own judgment and ideology for that of their female constituents, they have learned all the wrong lessons and are bound to lose", she continued. That is a harsh statement, especially on a unity tour.

Sanders voters, and Sanders himself, were sore that it looked like the Democratic National Committee had played favorites with the campaign of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during last year's primary.

That's why, despite the fact he isn't a Democrat and doesn't plan on ever becoming one, Perez brought Sanders on the tour. I asked him what exactly he meant by that.

For almost 20 seconds the crowd responded back with claps and a crescendoing 'Bernie!' chant.

"We believe that as Democrats, our diversity is our greatest strength", he said.

Oklahoma City Thunder: A look back at eight historic Westbrook feats
Though Westbrook and Harden have the most convincing resumés for the MVP, their records may prove to be a problem. The Thunder certainly can't be counted out, given the way Westbrook has carried them all season long.

Before Sanders spoke, Perez took the stage to Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down" and threw some coarse language at Trump and the GOP.

OMAHA, Nebraska (AP) — Bernie Sanders, who attracted millions of college-aged and young adults to his presidential campaign a year ago, is following through on a promise he made when he left the race: to promote younger leaders for the Democratic Party. "And that's what I'm running around this country trying to do".

"Well if you are, you've come to the right place", Sanders said at a "Come Together and Fight Back" rally in which he and new Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez sought to unite the party's Sanders and Clinton wings. "As DNC Chair, I stand by that position unequivocally, as I have my entire life". He'd be much more at home in the Green Party, which tried to woo him into being their nominee past year rather than Jill Stein. And these are voters that they really need to have on board.

Perez and Sanders' differences were somewhat apparent in the Tuesday interview.

SHAPIRO: Had a little audio glitch there.

But the night belonged to Bernie Sanders whom the audience embraced with cheers and chants.

DETROW: The symbolic nature of this is not that subtle from the Democrats.

"There are probably more Independents in this country than Democrats or Republicans". They're in Maine, Kentucky, Texas, Nebraska, Arizona.
