Kelly announced her departure in January.
"Look, it's open season", he said, visibly irritated, when asked about a recently published book by Megyn Kelly, his colleague at the time.
The Times doesn't have the actual text of the email, but it was apparently pretty scathing; among other things, Kelly noted that Settlin' Bill O'Reilly is quite possibly the last man on Earth who should be opening his mouth about sexual harassment claims.
It all stems back to past year, when Kelly came out against then-Fox News head Roger Ailes, and on TV one morning as a guest of another network, O'Reilly roundly dismissed the accusations, belittled Kelly, and came in the defense of Fox as opposed to helping a fellow on-air anchor. In the email, Ms. Kelly said that Mr. O'Reilly's comments on "CBS This Morning" were in bad form, according to the people with knowledge of the email who described its contents to The Times. "So I'm not going to buy into 'let's use the Fox News Channel as a piñata.' I don't think that's right". "I've had enough of it".
Kelly then reportedly sent an email to Fox News executives, citing O'Reilly's attitude and suggesting that it contributed to the environment that made female employees uncomfortable. It's a good place to work.

But it said that had failed to happen, and that evidence of irregularities had therefore not been properly archived. But many "No" voters saw the referendum as a power-hungry leader's attempt to cement his position.
According to The New York Times, two big factorss in her decision were the numerous accusations of sexual harassment against Bill O'Reilly and the network's apparent refusal to do much of anything about them.
O'Reilly responded publicly on his show, saying, "If you don't like what's happening in the workplace, go to human resources or leave".
Reports emerged earlier this month that five women accusing O'Reilly of sexual harassment received a total of $13 million for agreeing not to pursue litigation or talk about their accusations.
One of O'Reilly's attorneys said in a statement that he could not comment on what Kelly thought or did, "except to say she never raised any such issue with him, nor did anyone else".
The host of the political commentary program "The O'Reilly Factor" did an interview where he spoke in a very unflattering manner about Kelly who was then the face of Fox News.
