U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, flew in for an appearance Monday in Wichita.

Thompson, a civil rights attorney, said he was inspired by Sen.

The Democratic candidate who ran an unexpectedly competitive race in a special congressional election in Kansas plans to run for the seat again in 2018.

Next week's special election In Georgia's 6th district - a seat Trump carried by only one point in 2016 - will be a more fair fight than this Kansas seat. Republicans are defending four GOP-leaning seats - the Kansas seat plus Georgia, Montana and SC - while Democrats are protecting a seat in a liberal California district. Bernie Sanders' campaign for the presidency a year ago and made a decision to run for the 4th District.

"Beyond that, it's clear that grassroots supporters will continue to play a pivotal role in the 2018 midterms by supporting and energizing House Democratic candidates deep into the map", spokeswoman Meredith Kelly said.

The result in Kansas mirrors voter opposition to Sam Brownback, the unpopular Republican Governor of the state. Estes defeated Democrat James Thompson, drawing 52.5 percent of the vote to Thompson's 45.7 percent.

Estes said he and his wife, Susan, will maintain roughly the same living arrangements they've had since he was elected state treasurer in 2010.

Felts applauded rural voters for going to the polls in the special election. "Seeing everybody here, and I know where we need to go to fix what we weren't able to do in 60 days". Thompson came up short in his bid to beat Republican state Treasurer Ron Estes in a special election to replace current Central Intelligence Agency director and former U.S. Rep Mike Pompeo in the Kansas 4th congressional district.

Thompson was not supposed to come this close to winning in a district where Trump and Pompeo both won by about 30 percentage points last November, said Burdett Loomis, a political science professor at the University of Kansas.

Readers of a liberal blog have donated more than $200,000 in less than a week to the Democratic candidate in a special congressional election in Kansas.

PM Modi's view on triple talaq echoed sentiments of Muslim women: BJP
It will focus on expanding the party in politically important states like West Bengal and Odisha, which are key to Shah's 2019 Lok Sabha poll strategy.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee urged activists to recognize that Kansas showed Mr. Ossoff can win next week. Dan Glickman (D) was swept out by a Republican electoral victory wave in 1994 fueled in part by anti-abortion activists.

Only Sedgwick County showed Thompson ahead of Estes.

The suburban Atlanta district is the type of place where Democrats are pinning their hopes on recapturing the House next year. Thompson received 55,310, or 46 percent, and Libertarian Chris Rockhold received 2,082, or 2 percent.

President Donald Trump is having an impact on voters in Kansas' special Congressional election.

Estes is going to win by a lot less than 15 points. "In the next Congress, there will be fewer than two dozen House Republicans sitting in congressional districts won by Barack Obama in 2012", The Washington Post's Stuart Rothenberg writes.

And Trump helped solidify the victory by campaigning from afar.

The Walter family said it has been inundated with calls from the candidate.

"He said it's great, congratulations, he wanted to get me up there as soon as possible to help with some of the things he's trying to do, whether it's health care reform or tax reform", Estes said of his talk with President Trump. President Donald Trump recorded a get-out-the-vote message that was robo-called Monday to Republicans, and he tweeted his support early Tuesday. Trump's travel ban, which remains popular within the GOP base, is caught up in legal wrangling and, before that, was prematurely rolled out and plagued with problems.

Trump won 60 percent of the votes cast in the congressional district that includes the state's largest city of Wichita.
