Trump scoffs at Tax Day protests, says 'The election is over!'

Over a dozen people were arrested in Berkeley, Calif., over the weekend after violent clashes erupted in the streets between pro-Trump and anti-Trump groups.

"Someone should look into who paid for the small organised rallies yesterday", he added. "The election is over!"

The Washington, D.C. rally had some 25,000 participants, and attendance surpassed expectations in other cities as well.

The protests were timed to coincide with the traditional April 15 deadline for U.S. tax filings (though this year the deadline falls on April 18).

He shrugs the issue away by once again lying about his Electoral College victory, writing in a typo-riddled tweet that he managed to do "what was an nearly an impossible thing to do for a Republican-easily won the Electoral College!"

"If he's got nothing to hide, he should release his tax returns", said protester Liz Turner, 31. Trump tweeted at 6:13 a.m. on Easter.

A man named Phil from Jericho said that he just wanted to see "what a phony" Mr. Trump really is, CBS New York reports. The Internal Revenue Service automatically audits presidents and vice presidents every year, and according to a former IRS employee, numerous former presidents' returns have disappeared over the years.

Second, Trump seems to be implying that the only reason people would protest is that they are trying to influence an election.

Yet the marches accomplished more than provoking the president, Shockley said.

"There's so many possibilities for corruption and conflict of interest that we just don't know about", he said. Officers confiscated knives and makeshift weapons. "If you don't release your taxes, we have no way of knowing if you are putting America first, or Donald Trump first".

Presidents are not required to release their returns, but they have voluntarily done so since the early 1970s.

"His reputation.as a businessman and, more importantly, as a true American, a person who is concerned with American values, would be totally destroyed if all his financial information was made public", said Mike Mannshardt, a retired teacher.

"Obviously, the ramification of our tax policies that are giving more and more away to the millionaires and billionaires at the expense of sick people is a major concern", Sam Portera, a Bangor-area organizer for the Maine People's Alliance, said when asked what he thought drew between 80 and 100 people to the protest. It has legal authority to obtain confidential tax records, and could vote to make them public.
