Trump wants origins of Russia probe investigated

Attorney General William Barr says he plans to review the origins of the FBI's investigation between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

Earlier Wednesday, Barr told a Senate panel he believes "spying did occur" on Trump's presidential campaign, aligning himself more closely with the president's views on the origins of the Russian Federation investigation. "I think he is doing exactly the right thing". "And I am not talking about the Federal Bureau of Investigation necessarily, but intelligence agencies more broadly".

William Barr was asked whether spying occurred on the Trump campaign during the 2016 White House race.

"I am going to be reviewing both the genesis and the conduct of the intelligence activities directed at the Trump campaign during 2016", Barr said.

"I feel an obligation to make sure government power is not abused", Barr said.

Barr said he also plans to review the criminal referrals that House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes (R-CA) announced on Sunday he would be sending to Barr.

Democrats said they were concerned that a four-page summary letter of the report's main conclusions Barr released last month portrayed the investigation's findings in an overly favourable way for Trump.

Bernie Sanders: Felons Should Be Allowed to Vote While Serving Prison Time
Elizabeth Warren recently saying she backs the restoration of voting rights to those who have completed their prison terms. They are doing it because it buys them votes. "There's more work to do, but I am committed to getting this done".

Trump's campaign even included two former United States attorneys, Barr said- Chris Christie and Rudy Giuliani - people familiar with law enforcement and well known to the Justice Department. They say that was the start of the probe that Trump calls a "witch hunt" and that Mueller took over after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. Although the Department of Justice shot that down in 2017, agreeing that there was no evidence to support this, Barr, the new leader of the DOJ, seems to believe "unauthorized surveillance" may have occurred.

That's what Barr is telling Congress during his testimony before a Senate subcommittee hearing.

The special counsel's office did not establish that, Barr has said, nor did it establish that Trump broke the law in trying to frustrate the investigation.

Trump and his allies have focused much of their criticism of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and DOJ on the warrant that authorities sought in 2016 to conduct surveillance on a junior campaign foreign policy aide, Carter Page.

"It's entirely possible that Barr will surprise us by redacting very little", Schiff conceded. He said he wanted to "pull together all the information from the various investigations that have gone on, including on the Hill, and in the department, and see if there are any remaining questions to be addressed". "It's a big deal", Barr said in a Senate hearing on Wednesday. The CIA used at least one informer to collect information about it. The FBI relied on the notorious Steele dossier, funded by the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Supporters of the probe insist that USA officials were acting appropriately and in the public interest by investigating claims over the Trump campaign's engagements with Russian-linked figures.
