After a week of outages and limited generator power for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands, transmission power has been fully restored on the southern end of the Outer Banks.
Each of the seven villages on Hatteras Island have been removed from generator power, and are now receiving power from the cooperative's transmission lines. The cooperative and contractors are working tirelessly to ensure that transmission restoration will happen as quickly and safely as possible.
Cooperative Spokeswoman Laura Ertle said a new line that runs overhead is nearing completion.
On Ocracoke Island, Hyde County officials will be holding an event Friday morning to gather information from businesses about the economic impact of the week-long outage.

Hopefully in the future, no refugee children will be left behind, and all of them will be able to go to school. Instead, the money will go toward extending the hours so refugee children can attend classes in the afternoon.
Hatteras Island will be open to visitors again on Friday at noon after being shut down for more than a week, according to Dare County officials on Thursday. The mandatory power restrictions for Hatteras Island are now lifted to allow CHEC to complete the safe stabilization of the power grid.
Crews worked through the week to excavate the two damaged power cables and erect a new overhead line to restore power to the islands.

The outage forced an estimated 50,000 visitors to leave Hatteras and Ocracoke islands, and others never made it to the popular vacation spots because of evacuation orders for the two islands. From Plymouth, NC keep going east to Roanoke Island and follow Highway 12 South to Hatteras Island.
