North Korea says U.S. student's death a "mystery to us as well"

Warmbier, a University of Virginia student from Wyoming, Ohio, was 21 when he was detained in North Korea and held for almost 17 months before he was medically evacuated and flown to Cincinnati on June 13.

"This college kid never should have been detained in the first place", said Mr Portman, who previously revealed he met secretly with North Korean officials in NY last December to press for Mr Warmbier's release.

Warmbier was travelling in North Korea with a tour group, and was arrested at Pyongyang airport as he was about to leave.

Tillerson said Wednesday that China had a "diplomatic responsibility to exert much greater economic and diplomatic pressure on the regime if they want to prevent further escalation in the region".

His death heightened the conflict between the North and the United States already aggravated by North Korea's defiant missile launches and two nuclear tests since early a year ago as part of its effort to build a nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of hitting the US mainland. He died on Monday.

Sentenced to hard labor early a year ago for stealing a political poster from a North Korean hotel, Warmbier was medically evacuated to the United States in a coma last week after almost 18 months in captivity.

The exact cause of his death is unclear.

Germany reach semis as referee needs VAR double-take
Cameroon goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa prevented Germany from extending its lead by blocking Kimmich's shot from a tight angle. Even then the referee didn't come up with the right decision and flipped the colour of Siani's card from yellow to red.

His family and others have blamed North Korea for his condition. North Korea has accelerated its development of nuclear bombs and ballistic missiles since 2009, when it walked away from six-party talks involving the U.S., South Korea, China, Russia and Japan.

Two months after his sentence he suffered a neurological injury and went into a coma.

After a one-hour trial in March 2016, Warmbier was convicted and sentenced to 15 years of hard labor.

The consensus document also highlighted the need to fully and strictly hold to United Nations Security Council resolutions and push for dialogue and negotiation, which has always been China's position on the issue.

The KCNA news agency Friday said that Warmbier was treated in accordance with domestic law and said that allegations that he may have been tortured during almost 18 months in detention were "groundless". "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them", it said. "And no excuse for the way they've treated so many others", he said. Rodman defended his friendship with Kim Jong Un during an interview with ABC News during which his agent claimed Rodman's urging led to Warmbier's return to the United States.

"These are the same kids who cry about their grades because they didn't think they'd really have to read and study the material to get a good grade", Dettwyler wrote. "I never met Otto Warmbier but I have tremendous respect for him and the life that he led as a young man".
