Former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson testifies to the House Intelligence Committee task force on Capitol Hill in Washington, Wednesday, June 21, 2017, as part of the Russian Federation investigation.

Department of Homeland Security cyber division acting director Sam Liles told the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee that internet-connected election related networks were potentially targeted by Russian government cyber actors.

Hackers with ties to the Russian government successfully altered voter information stole thousands of voter records containing private information during attempts to meddle in the 2016 USA presidential election, Time reported.

Also Wednesday, Russia cancelled scheduled talks with a top United States diplomat aimed at improving relations.

WASHINGTON-President Donald Trump appears to be questioning Russia's role in hacking the Democratic National Committee (DNC) during the 2016 election, despite widespread consensus from the intelligence community and lawmakers. "Why didn't they stop them?"

Trump has decried the probes as witch hunts and he's rejected the US intelligence community's assessment that Russia's hacking and disinformation campaign was meant to aid his candidacy. He said the severity of Russia's efforts persuaded him to sign onto an October 7 statement publicly blaming the Kremlin for what had happened, even though doing so could have been perceived as "taking sides" or "challenging the integrity of the election itself". First, on Twitter, President Trump dismissed the concerns about Russian Federation as a "big Dem HOAX" and suggested that his predecessor, President Barack Obama, did little to confront the problem.

At a briefing on Tuesday White House press secretary Sean Spicer could not say whether the president agrees that Russian Federation did the hacking that helped to sink Democrats in the last election. "The DNC has been in regular contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for many months and the Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed the DNC has provided all the information it needed to make its assessment". "It's all a big Dem scam and excuse for losing the election!"

Brexit 'divorce bill' from European Union to be settled ahead of trade talks
David Davis and I, as chief European Union negotiator, will discuss the issues together, tackle difficulties, and lift obstacles. Those were, he said, the rights of expatriate citizens and problems of a new EU-UK border, notably cutting across Ireland.

He tweeted on Thursday that the Democratic National Committee turned down an offer from the department of homeland security "to protect against hacks (long prior to election)". One last shot at me.

Time Magazine reported that a Russian cyber attack in more than 20 states is worse than initially thought.

Ousted FBI Director James Comey was asked about the DNC's decision during his high-profile appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier this month.

While the Russian interference in the 2016 campaign has been known for months, it was the first time USA officials have said how many states' electoral systems were targeted.

He also said he wasn't aware that the FBI had opened a counterintelligence investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.

"I was anxious to know whether our folks were in there", he said.
