The 2017 NBA Draft kicked off Thursday night at the Barclays Center in NY with the Philadelphia 76ers taking Washington point guard Markelle Fultz at No. 1.
The Philadelphia 76ers got the player they wanted and Lonzo Ball the team he wanted.
On draft night, they still grabbed one of the most NBA-ready players available.
"We don't need that attention", Kentucky guard Malik Monk said. "On Thursday night, hopefully we make a decision that results in one of those franchise-level players being here".
Markelle Fultz was once cut from the varsity team in high school and now he is the No. 1 overall pick in the National Basketball Association draft.

Netanyahu has been a vocal opponent of the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, charging that Tehran is aiming to achieve nuclear weapons. The regional and worldwide sponsors of the terrorists must receive the revealing message of the assault, ' he said.
The Boston Celtics made the first move of this year's National Basketball Association draft days before it began when they traded the No. 1 overall pick to Philadelphia in a move to add to an already rich cache of future selections. "I mean, you can get traded in the blink of an eye, without knowing", Fultz said. "Definitely was, and now I'm just focused on playing", Lonzo Ball said.
The 76ers had the No. 1 pick for the second straight year after trading with the Boston Celtics on Monday. Dwight Howard was dealt and D'Angelo Russell who just two years ago was on the same stage the players will walk Thursday as the No. 2 pick was dealt by the Los Angeles Lakers, presumably to clear the point guard spot for Ball and salary cap space for the future.
Boston comes back at third overall with point guard Isiah Thomas solidly in place, making Fultz expendable and opening the door for other talented playmakers as Josh Jackson, a shooting guard who scored 16.3 points, 7.4 rebounds 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals a game for Kansas last season.
That's one of the things to watch from Barclays Center, where the record for freshmen taken in the first round could fall.
"This, I think, has a chance to be a historic draft", Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Scott Layden said. "I'm going to have some custom-made shoes that I think nobody ever had before".
