Warmbier, an American college student who was released by North Korea in a com.
Any number of factors could be behind the deterioration in Warmbier's health during his time in prison: poor hygienic conditions, malnutrition or lack of proper medical care may have been responsible for a coma that North Korean doctors were unable to treat. However, on 13 June Warmbier was sent back to his country in a state of coma on "humanitarian grounds".
Asked whether the Obama administration should have done more to free his son, Warmbier told reporters last week: "I think the results speak for themselves". He was later sentenced to 15 years hard labor for allegedly stealing a propaganda banner at his hotel, but was released after 17 months in detention.
Warmbier was visiting North Korea as part of a tour group when he was detained at the Pyongyang airport in January 2016.
North Korea claims Warmbier fell ill with botulism and slipped into a coma after taking a sleeping pill, a claim Warmbier's parents and US doctors have disputed since his return to USA soil.

"I think there have been some positive steps that they've taken, both at the United Nations and economically, to help strengthen the case against North Korea", Spicer added.
Warmbier's family has not specified how he slipped from a comatose state to death, but said in a statement on Monday that the "awful torturous mistreatment" he endured while in captivity meant "no other outcome was possible".
Warmbier grew up in the Cincinnati suburb of Wyoming.
