Jared Kushner travelling to Middle East to work toward peace deal

The White House said on Sunday that Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, would arrive in Israel on Wednesday and that he and Jason Greenblatt, a top USA national security aide who preceded him on Monday, would meet Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law and senior adviser, and Jason Greenblatt, his lead worldwide negotiator, will meet with leaders from both sides after accompanying Trump on his visit to the region last month.

"Part of it is to figure out how to make incremental change that results in a lasting peace", Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, said on Monday as reported by the New York Times. During that period, however, the population of existing settlements and unauthorized so-called "wildcat outposts" has nearly trebled.

Following the abduction of the Palestinian driver, the army said it is still unclear if he knew of their intention to carry out an attack, and failed to stop or report them, or he was just a driver.

There are about 550,000 Jewish settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem living amid some three million Palestinians, according to the Israeli human rights group B'Tselem.

Prior to its claim on the Jerusalem attack, ISIS had also falsely claimed it was responsible for the terror attack in Resorts World Manila earlier this month that left 38 people dead, including the culprit. They are also likely to have more on their agenda this week than a narrow focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
