"The president is not a subject or target of investigation", said Trump legal team member, Jay Sekulow, in an interview.
And not unlike others who advise Trump on personal matters, Sekulow regularly appears on Fox News, as well as hosts a syndicated daily radio talk show.
"As the deputy attorney general has said numerous times, if there comes a point when he needs to recuse, he will", agency spokesman Ian Prior said in a Friday statement.
The obstruction-of-justice investigation of the president began days after Comey was sacked on May 9, according to people familiar with the matter. "The legal team has not been notified", he said on CNN.
At some point, Mueller may wish to interview Federal Bureau of Investigation senior leadership about their meetings with Comey regarding Trump, though it's unclear if this has already taken place.
On the Post report, it gets even more weird. According to the White House, Trump had met on May 8 with Rosenstein and Sessions, who told their boss then they had concerns about Comey.
"This is is going to move forward", he said. "Good luck trying to represent him". The special counsel also is said to be looking into Russian cyberhacking, potential collusion between Russian operatives and Trump campaign associates and possible financial crimes committed by those same associates.
But Trump's attorneys, with their own unconventional backgrounds, face a challenging task especially against seasoned lawyers working with former FBI Director Robert Mueller.
I want to be very clear about this, the president is not and has not been under investigation.
"Sekulow says that when people study the 2016 presidential election, they'll look back at Trump's communications as the most successful utilization of social media platforms and communication in our lifetime".
"If you can prove that there was something there and the president knew about it, then the obstruction case looks far stronger", Washington attorney Justin Dillon said. I think they maintain that investigation.
But should Trump be under investigation?
Escaped Georgia Inmates Captured
Rowe and DuBose wrecked the Jeep near the 91 mile marker, according to the THP, and fled into the woods alongside the interstate. Officials from Tennessee say Dubose and Rowe held the couple hostage for about three hours before stealing their auto .
The president wrote on Twitter Friday: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"
One of the big reasons why the scandal surrounding President Trump and the FBI's investigation into Russian interference in last year's election is accelerating so quickly is that people at its center don't understand the consequences of their words and actions.
That lack of formal notification wouldn't be unusual in the early stages of an investigation.
President Trump is now in the grip of this situation.
I guess the logic to wait to later in the year, if you assumed sanctions moderation, was that Russian Federation would benefit from yield compression as a result.
"Well, I think there is evidence", Schiff replied.
While total silence won't work, a more measured public approach may be prudent, Dillon said. I could be wrong, but I took him to be focusing on what had just happened with Flynn's departure and the controversy around his account of his phone calls.
"Boring" seems out of the question. A chilling detail for the White House from the prosecution team - the combined CVs of Mueller's team have experience on everything from al-Qaeda to Richard Nixon and gangsters.
The lawyer also suggested Twitter's character limit may be partly to blame.
At the president's urging, he has been on the offensive, casting doubt on Comey's character and raising questions about whether the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director inappropriately disclosed sensitive material.
Asked last week if he was open to investigating the White House on questions of obstruction of justice, Grassley did not rule it out.
