Wednesday morning, tragedy stuck at a park in Alexandria, Virginia, when a gunman opened fire on a group of congressman practicing for the Congressional Baseball Game.
Duncan spoke with Hodgkinson before he opened fire at the Republican congressional baseball practice, wounding five including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.
"When he arrived, he was in critical condition with an imminent risk of death", Dr. Jack Sava, director of trauma at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, said at a press conference Friday afternoon. He remains in critical condition from a shot to the hip. Mika worked for two Michigan Republicans before becoming a lobbyist in 2008, and was volunteering to help with the practice.
Hodgkinson died from his injuries in a shootout with police.
Representative Steve Scalise, two political staffers and two Capitol Police officers sustained gunshot wounds from the rampage.
Hodgkinson was still in IL as recently as March, when the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department responded to a "shots fired" call and found Hodgkinson shooting a hunting rifle. She said he talked a lot about politics but, when pressed, said she didn't want to discuss her husband's views. He had run out of money, his wife told reporters.

Authorities are still working to determine the motive for the attack, according to AP.
Hodgkinson, who was armed with a handgun and a rifle, died from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said. The Bureau is now seeking more information about the attacker.
