Iran warns missile attack on IS in Syria can be repeated

On Sunday, IRGC said in a statement that its aerospace units targeted the "terrorists" command centers in Deir ez-Zor with its missiles aiming to punish the "Takfiri terrorists" for their recent twin attacks in Iran's capital Tehran.

The missile strikes are the first reported ground-to-ground attack from Iran into Syria since the Arab country descended into a civil war in 2011.

Deir el-Zour is home to both Islamic State militants and civilians.

The incident with the Syrian plane began after the us -backed rebel fighters, called the Syrian Democratic Forces, were attacked by what the American military called "pro-Syrian regime forces". On Monday, Russia warned the United States that it will treat the US-led coalition planes in Syria, west of the Euphrates, as targets.

Areas of northern Syria west of the Euphrates were controlled by IS before Syrian government forces captured majority in recent months.

The United States and Russian Federation, which has been providing an air cover for Syria's President Bashar Assad since 2015 in his offensive against the Islamic State group, have a standing agreement that should prevent in-the-air incidents involving US and Russian Federation jets engaged in operations in Syria.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, said late on Sunday that all efforts by the U.S.to undermine the Islamic Republic establishment have ended up in failure over the past decades.

Russia's Defence Ministry said yesterday it would view as targets any flying objects over Syria in areas of the country where its air forces operate.

However, the new reports were unable to establish if the drugs were the primary cause of her death or merely coincidental. Coroner's officials ruled on Friday that the death of the " Star Wars " actress was due to sleep apnea and other causes.

Speaking in Washington, the top USA military officer said the two sides discussed the matter as recently as Monday morning but that further talks are needed.

Israeli PM Netanyahu sent his own message back to Iran, which was simply, "Don't threaten Israel".

Zolfaqar high-precision missiles were used in the attack, he added.

Senior Iranian officials had also put the blame for the Tehran attacks on Riyadh, saying Saudi Arabia was "promoting terrorist groups" in Iran. At the same time, the Trump administration has left the Iranian nuclear agreement it had touted as one of "the worst deals of all time" in place, but is now enacting extra sanctions as a response to Tehran's ongoing ballistic missile tests.

As per the reports, several ground-to-ground, mid-range missiles were fired from bases in Kermanshah province, western Iran.

Two U.S. officials said Iran fired six ballistic missiles during the attack - one Fatah-110 and five IRSS-1 "Zulfiqar" missiles. Former Guard chief Gen. Mohsen Rezai wrote on Twitter: "The bigger slap is yet to come".

Coordination with the Assad regime comes as no surprise, as Iran and Syria are close allies.
