All eastbound lanes on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge are now shut down, according to California Highway Patrol officials. CHP officers commanded the vehicle to stop, but the driver continued moving forward, according to the CHP. The three other lanes reopened around 9:20 a.m.

KRON 4 reports that the closure, which is just east of the Yerba Buena Island tunnel, has backed up eastbound traffic "for at least a mile", leaving cars "parked on the bridge because there is nowhere to go".

CHP Officer Vu Williams says a Cadillac not involved in the crash suddenly drove toward the officers during their investigation.

The California Highway Patrol says the collision was reported around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. The red vehicle did have passengers inside, but the gunfire did not strike any of the passengers, CHP officials said.

"It came up the right shoulder, and they saw it coming at them", Williams said. The officer felt threatened and fired on the driver, according to Williams. The male driver was taken to a hospital where he is expected to survive.

The condition of the driver is not known at present.
