Trump had received assurances from former FBI Director James Comey that he was not under personal investigation, but following Comey's firing on May 9th, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that Special Counsel Robert Mueller began looking into charges of obstruction of justice. "Nice", Trump tweeted at 3:55 a.m.
Citing five people briefed on the subject, the Washington Post reported Wednesday evening that Special Counsel Robert Mueller expanded his investigation to include whether Trump has obstructed justice.
The report, which cites five unnamed officials, states that the investigation into Mr Trump began after FBI director James Comey was sacked by the president on May 9th.
President Trump seemed to confirm that he is under investigation for obstruction of justice Thursday morning in a tweet dismissing the investigation.
Wednesday's Washington Post article caused a firestorm in the White House on Thursday, particularly because President Trump had been trying so hard to prove that he was not a focus of the Russian Federation investigation. The newspaper noted Mueller had requested interviews with CIA Director Dan Coats, National Security Agency chief Michael Rogers and Richard Ledgett, the former NSA deputy director. Comey also said he had, as the president divulged, told Trump at the time that he wasn't personally the target of an investigation.
The president tweeted Friday, "Despite the phony Witch Hunt going on in America, the economic & jobs numbers are great".
Trump has been insisting that he is the target of a conspiracy to discredit and possibly end his presidency, according to the report. Trump said he felt "vindicated" by Comey's testimony.
Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid after accusations
Either way, it seems Ronaldo is not ready to do any of those things, and instead would prefer to leave Madrid and play elsewhere. But there is no question that Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid would change the European football landscape as we know it.
'I guess you feel like you just need to trust your president, ' said Richardson, a retiree from Meade County, Kentucky.
Trump allies are questioning the investigation, pointing to sensitive details leaking into the press and Mueller bringing on high-powered lawyers who have donated to Democratic candidates. Still, the snowballing investigation has deeply angered Trump, who denies he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation.
The tweet came around 9:10 a.m. Friday.
Trump's Twitter response followed days of intensifying criticism of Mueller from some conservatives who have charged the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director and his team with political bias and have claimed his relationship to Comey and an earlier meeting with Trump amount to conflicts of interest.
Soon after, Trump spoke to Coats and Rogers about the Russian Federation investigation. What is clear is that he could order the Justice Department to ax Mueller, which may result in Rosenstein's departure and would certainly intensify the uproar over the investigation.
The transition official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss post-election decisions publicly.
