James Hodgkinson, whom the Federal Bureau of Investigation identified as the man who opened fire on Congress members and staffers at a GOP baseball practice Wednesday morning, was a fierce opponent of President Donald Trump, according to initial accounts and a review of his social media profiles. They believe he had not lived there since March, when he arrived in Virginia.
Those on the far Right claim harsh rhetoric by Democrats and liberals over Republican President Donald Trump is creating this culture of violence.
Hodgkinson was still in IL as recently as March, when the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department responded to a "shots fired" call and found Hodgkinson shooting a hunting rifle.
Former Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille, who chatted with Hodgkinson at the gym, said he assumed the man was homeless because he wore pretty much the same outfit every day and carried a bag full of extra clothes.

The FBI on Wednesday confirmed the gunman's identity as 66-year-old James Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois.
One of Hodgkinson's neighbors, Aaron Meurer, told the Belleville News-Democrat that Hodgkinson had been absent for the past two months and that he wasn't sure if Hodgkinson was still with his wife, Suzanne. Many included complaints about income inequality, the AP reported.
Law enforcement records show that Hodgkinson had been arrested on suspicion of battery and motor vehicle damage, among other arrests. According to the court clerk, the charges were dismissed in November of that year. Records indicate he has not been involved in any legal cases since 2011. When he went outside, he saw Hodgkinson shooting a rifle into a cornfield. He was squeezing off five or six shots at a time and, according to the report of the incident, fired about 50 shots in all.
So be it. I abhor this shooting, and I abhor all such shootings.
