The official was responding to this comment from Ruddy, a longtime Trump confidant, to "PBS NewsHour" host Judy Woodruff: "I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel".
Conservative commentator Ann Coulter offered a similar message, tweeting, "Now that we know TRUMP IS NOT UNDER INVESTIGATION, Sessions should take it back & fire Mueller".
"The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal", Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Kasowitz, was quoted as saying. Mr Trump told a television reporter that one of the reasons he had fired the 56-year-old, was because of the ongoing probe into possible collusion with Russian Federation, something the President said was nothing more than "fake news" being generated by those angry about his election victory. He told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that "I don't think the Congress would sit still and allow the president to pick his own investigator". Comey testified in a Senate hearing last week that he believed he was sacked "because of the Russian Federation investigation".
Comey testified that initial explanations that he was sacked because of poor leadership were "lies, plain and simple".
During his own dramatic testimony before the same Senate committee last week, Comey said he felt he was sacked in large part because he refused to drop a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into possible nefarious ties between Russian officials and Trump's campaign adviser and first national security adviser, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.
Mueller's investigation will oversee an FBI probe into whether members of Trump's campaign team and his associates colluded to help Russian Federation with its interference in the election.
Chairman Chuck Grassley has emerged as an aggressive force, pressing for Comey's written notes of his conversations with Trump and leaving the door open Tuesday to a possible obstruction of justice probe. "I have confidence in Bob Mueller". But Comey did lay out facts that a prosecutor could use to try to prove obstruction, as NPR's Domenico Montanaro noted. Trump disputed, though, Comey's assertion he had asked for a pledge of loyalty.
US stocks end mostly lower after Fed rate hike
The Fed would start with monthly reductions in Treasury holdings of no more than $6 billion and $4 billion in mortgage bonds. We have also seen inflation expectations fall, but less than nominal yields and this has seen a decent pop in real yields.
Mueller has not publicly discussed his work.
His aides talked him out of it, The New York Times reported.
On Monday, a friend of Trump's, Christopher Ruddy, said the United States leader was considering firing special counsel Mueller. a claim later denied by the President's aides.
Trump said when he dismissed Comey on May 9 that the reason was the former FBI chief's handling of the investigation into Democrat Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server. The investigation has been cloaked in secrecy and it's unclear how many others have been questioned by the FBI.
Recent reports have found Mueller is hiring investigators familiar with prosecuting corruption cases.
Obstruction issues emerged during a February 14 meeting in the Oval Office, when the president told Comey he hoped his disgraced former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn would elude criminal prosecution.
Justice Department policy is that a sitting president can not be indicted by a grand jury, the Post also reported Wednesday.
