She will meet Ostapenko for the first time in the final on Saturday.

After facing early danger on her own serve, the third seed looked assured when starting off the points, while challenging Pliskova's.

The Czech said: "Ostapenko is having a good run here, and she's a unsafe player for everybody, but I would bet everything what I have on Simona".

- She became the first unseeded player to reach the French Open women's final since 1983.

"At the beginning, I was serving pretty bad there, and I suffered two double faults in that game".

Ostapenko, whose average forehand speed of 76 miles per hour this tournament has eclipsed that of men's world No 1 Andy Murray (73), will face either 2014 Roland Garros runner-up Halep on Saturday for the title. After Ostapenko won the first set, Bacsinszky broke for 4-3 in the second and went on to level.

Firing stunning winners on both sides, Ostapenko was always the aggressor and after three breaks apiece in the opening set she took the tiebreak 7-4.

"I'm really happy with my win today and it was really tough match".

The second-seeded Czech fended off three break points on her way to claiming the second set 6-3, clinching it with a forehand victor on her second set point.

Thus, Saturday's first-ever meeting between Ostapenko and Halep presents not just another battle between power vs. defense and point construction, but a vast difference in terms of what's at stake. I'm ready to face her, and I'm ready to face another final.

Mixed in with her scintillating winners, including forehands faster than anything men's world number one Andy Murray has managed here so far, were 45 unforced errors, some of which could have been included in a video nasty.

"I felt a little bit tight because.I was very close to making the final and some thoughts were in my mind", added Ostapenko, whose previous best run at a Slam was reaching the third round at the Australian Open.

Pliskova would've topped the rankings herself had she beaten Halep on Thursday but the world No. 4's 6-4 3-6 6-3 win saw her deny the Czech. I knew I had to be aggressive to try to beat her.

"But then, like, first match was a tough match and I won it and it kind of gave me confidence". And she remains the only woman in the Open era to win Wimbledon playing two-fisted forehands and backhands.

In a stunning coincidence, the amiable Brazilian secured the first of three victories here on the day Ostapenko was born. If Halep defeats Ostapenko, she will claim the No. 1 overall ranking in the WTA from Angelique Kerber.

"Still, I think I'm able to play better tennis", Pliskova said, "which, probably, I'm going to need" against Halep.

Halep showed the full extent of her defensive skills to beat Pliskova and reach her second French Open final.

The Czech said: "I don't want to be frustrated after this match, because I lost to somebody who is the best on clay right now at the time and in a semi-final at Roland Garros".
