Attorney General Jeff Sessions testifies before the Senate Intelligence Committee Tuesday.
"I think, frankly, our story shows that the president is by no means out of the woods as far as the investigation goes", the Post's Barrett told NPR. "I received only the limited information that the department's career officials determined was necessary for me to form and make a recusal decision".
During the hearing, Harris tried to extract a promise from Sessions that he would provide any documentation that would help the committee's investigation, however, Sessions only promised to review the rules of the Justice Department, and respond accordingly, reports the Washington Post.
Sessions recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation in March after revelations that he had failed to disclose two meetings previous year with Russia's ambassador to Washington, Sergei Kislyak. "As such, I have no knowledge about this investigation as it is ongoing today beyond what has been publicly reported", Sessions said.
The Post reported that the obstruction of justice investigation of the president began days after James Comey was sacked as the FBI Director on May 9.
The letter from Attorney General Jeff Sessions to President Donald Trump to FBI Director James Comey is photographed in Washington, Tuesday, May 9, 2017, where Sessions says a "fresh start is needed at the leadership of the FBI".
Sessions, despite repeatedly being pushed by the Democratic Senators refused to give details of his communications with the President.

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., suggested that the attorney general was ducking critical questions in his testimony. He also said that while he "pushed back" against Russia's role in the Ukraine conflict of 2014, he couldn't remember if he brought up "Russia-related security issues" with Kislyak.
Daniel Coats, the current director of national intelligence, Adm. Mike Rogers, head of the National Security Agency, and Richard Ledgett, Rogers' former deputy will be interviewed by Mueller's investigators, perhaps as early as this week, the article said.
Significantly, Preet Bharara, the India-born former top U.S. federal prosecutor, earlier this week had said that there was enough evidence to begin an obstruction of justice case against Trump over his alleged interference in the Russian Federation probe.
"I believe it was the next day that he said something, expressed concern about being left alone with the President". Sessions said he had no recollection of meeting with Kislyak when the two were at a VIP event with about two dozen other people.
Sessions told the Intelligence Committee that he agreed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department needed to follow department policies regarding its contacts with the White House in such sensitive matters. At the end of May, the chief of the Justice Department's Fraud Section, Andrew Weissman, also joined the team, NPR's Carrie Johnson reported at the time.
Then there was the fact, revealed in Sessions' testimony yesterday, that he had never met with Comey to discuss what he took to be his poor performance.
"I encourage every effort to get to the bottom of any such allegations", he said. Given Republicans' apparent lack of interest in prying the truth out of Sessions, the attorney general may never have to answer for this oversight.
