Labour support increases in Scotland as SNP backing slips, new poll reveals

Responding to Ms Sturgeon's comments on Friday, Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale insisted Mr Corbyn had "absolutely 100% refuted any prospect of a deal, a coalition or a pact with the SNP".

It shows 11% of voters are undecided (down from 18% in our last Survation poll in April) with just five days until the polling stations open. They've lied to people - this is a straight fight between Labour and the SNP and anyone who says it's not doesn't know anything about this constituency.

Nicola Sturgeon said she believes Scotland will be independent by 2025 - amid predictions she could hold the balance of power after June 8.

Sturgeon said her timetable for holding a second vote on Scottish independence is "as it's always been", having previously said it would be between autumn 2018 and spring 2019.

"With Labour surging in the polls across the United Kingdom, voters have a real chance to deliver a Labour government led by Jeremy Corbyn for the many, not the few".

Survation carried out the survey of 1,024 Scots between May 31 and June 2.

Also, younger voters are now more attracted to Labour than they have been in previous elections.

"Nearly half the population voted against Brexit and during the course of the campaign the Tories have clearly fixed to the right and are trying to move the Brexit vote and have made very little attempt to reach out to the half of the population who take a very different view of the world they want to live in".

Labour has gained ground in Scotland in the final stretch of General Election campaigning, according to the latest opinion poll.

A total of 44% said Yes, 34% said No and 22% were not sure.

Nicola Sturgeon told the Border Telegraph: "This election is important for the Borders, but it's important for Scotland as a whole".

Asked what Jeremy Corbyn should do if he doesn't become Prime Minister after Thursday's vote, 45% said he should resign, 35% said he should stay on as Labour leader and the rest were unsure.

Ms Sturgeon also said it was important to have organisations like the European Union to help deal with global problems such as climate change and said no single country could tackle such issues "despite what President Trump seems to think".

Meanwhile, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has said SNP/Liberal Democrat marginal seats across the country could decide whether an independence referendum takes place.

As she campaigned in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, the First Minister said: "There is a possibility as we see the polls narrow that we could deny Theresa May a majority, and certainly deny her a bigger majority, which is why she called this election".

"As we have seen during this campaign, the Tories are planning an unprecedented assault on pensioner incomes - from the notorious dementia tax to cuts to winter fuel payments and abandoning the "triple lock" on pension increases". A handful of votes could be the difference between winning and losing.
