Hate speech: Osinbajo threatens to deal with culprits

Osinbajo said the government was determined to ensure the unity of Nigeria "along the lines of our constitution".

"Their is no doubt on the resolve of government to allow anyone get away with hate speeches and divisive words".

The meeting came as part of consultations sequel to threats of secession by Igbo groups and a recent ultimatum by some northern youth group giving Igbo people three months to leave the region.

He said that a cabal had allegedly insisted that the acting president would not sign the budget until President Muhammadu Buhari returned, noting, however, that "we believe that government is a continued process and should not have any vacuum".

While presenting the budget previous year December, Buhari had said the plan was predicated on an oil benchmark of $42.5 per barrel, an estimate of 2.2 million barrels production per day and an exchange rate of 305 naira to the dollar. Addressing ministers, permanent secretaries and heads of government agencies who participated at the event, Osinbajo advised them to pay attention to the budget details, pointing out that "we must understand not just how to do it right but to get it done in good time".
