Scalise had surgery Wednesday morning at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. It provided no further details about him.
The shooter, identified as a 66-year-old IL man who had vented at Republicans on social media, fired repeatedly at the baseball field in suburban Alexandria, Virginia. Both serve as part of Scalise's security detail and were in good condition, according to U.S. Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa. It did not identify the victim. President Trump announced Hodgkinson died from his injuries.

Former Alexandria mayor Bill Euille, a Democrat, said he had often spoken to him on recent mornings at the nearby YMCA. Scalise, who was shot in the hip, was playing second.
The suspect was a staunch Bernie Sanders supporter who reportedly targeted the congressmen due to their political affiliation and publicly advocated violence against the GOP in the past, notes The Hill.
At least four others, including two police officers, were wounded at the shooting in Alexandria, Virginia. Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was too early to determine a motive in the shooting or whether the attack was an attempted political assassination. They were in good spirits despite the heat and humidity as they prepared for the congressional baseball match that pits Republicans against Democrats.
