Sessions to be grilled over Comey, Russia

As with little Alexander in one of the greatest children's books of all time, nothing's been going right for Donald Trump's attorney general.

Jack Reed, D-R.I., said he also has questions about Sessions' participation in Comey's firing - considering the firing came after Sessions recused himself from the Russian Federation probe.

The hearing will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

Developing: Attorney General Jeff Sessions will testify in an open hearing when he goes before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday afternoon.

He asked to testify instead before the Senate Intelligence Committee, but it had been unclear whether that hearing would be open to the public. Trump had delayed an earlier plan to visit the state soon after his first foreign trip.

Sessions announced he wanted to testify in public in a statement released on Monday.

Sessions did not say in the letter whether his appearance would be in public or behind closed doors.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will replace Sessions at the appropriations committees' hearing Tuesday. "The attorney general's involvement is highly questionable, to be blunt, and I think those questions will be raised". And then, according to Comey's testimony last week, it looked like Jeff Sessions somehow was in the middle of all of this.

The New York City federal prosecutor who expected to remain on the job when Trump took office but ended up being fired said he was made uncomfortable by one-on-one interactions with the president - just like Comey was.

Here's why Sessions is at the center of so much, and here's how he can help us better understand the still-unraveling Trump-Russia-FBI investigation.

Oklahoma jail escape: 4 on the run, including murder suspect
The prisoners were identified as Brian Allen Moody, 23, Sonny Baker, 41, Trey Goodnight, 27 and Jeremy Tyson Irvin, 31. The breakout happened between 1am and 4am Monday at the Lincoln County Jail near Oklahoma City, according to ABC News .

The department has seen multiple requests from Congress for copies of the memos Comey says he wrote after his meetings with Trump.

She described Comey's testimony as "candid" and "thorough" and said she would support a subpoena if needed.

Senator Lankford, agreed the panel needed to hear any tapes, if they exist.

The White House disputed the characterization, calling it offensive.

The talk about dismissing Mueller appeared to be coming from Trump allies - including some close to White House strategist Steve Bannon - who are increasingly frustrated with the prospect of a long and winding probe.

Comey said Trump told Sessions and other administration officials to leave the room before Trump asked him in February to drop a probe into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's contacts with Russian Federation.

"Sessions actually offered to resign, even though his friends say he doesn't want to leave, but Trump has refused to accept that resignation".

The Justice Department has said that Sessions was at the Mayflower that day, but there were no private or side conversations between the two.

During his testimony last week, Comey suggested there might be more to Sessions' recusal from the Russian Federation probe, telling lawmakers he believed it was "inevitable" that Sessions would recuse himself and there were "facts" he could not discuss in an open hearing. Comey was leading that probe.

During his televised testimony on Thursday, Comey that Sessions, a former senator from Alabama, may have had additional contacts with Russians, and said in a closed hearing that investigators had received Russian intercepts detailing a possible third meeting between Sessions and Kislyak, CNN reported.
