Prosecutors say Bill Cosby screwed himself

A kindly mentor or a callous manipulator.

Jurors were expected to hear closing arguments and could get the case in the afternoon.

Pennsylvania judges seldom deviate from state sentencing guidelines, but they do have the power to decide whether a defendant serves the sentences for each count consecutively or at the same time.

Cosby arrived at court arm-in-arm with his wife Camille on Monday, marking her first appearance at the comedian's trial for aggravated indecent assault.

In his closing argument, Mr Cosby's lawyer Brian McMonagle said while his client had been unfaithful to his wife, he did not commit a crime.

The prosecution relied heavily on parts of the deposition Cosby gave to police in a 2005 civil suit brought by Constand.

"Who says something like that?"

Cosby, star of the 1980s hit family sitcom "The Cosby Show", faces charges that he assaulted Andrea Constand, now 44, at his home in 2004. Cosby has been accused of raping or assaulting dozens of women, often after offering or slipping them drugs.

"Why are we running from the truth of this case - this relationship? Why?"

Earlier in the conversation, when not specifically discussing the Cosby trial, Bailey had been speaking about circumstances in which he said an accuser can unwittingly make a false allegation based on a distorted perception of events.

He allegedly gave her pills that paralyzed her and left her unable to resist when he started touching her in his Philadelphia home. She slipped into the courtroom while the judge was addressing the audience and the attorneys.

Cosby told a radio interviewer weeks before the trial that he did not plan to testify in his defense. McMonagle called the detective merely to attest to the existence of a police report about Constand's interviews with law enforcement investigators and to briefly discuss questions the policeman asked the alleged victim about several hours she spent with Cosby at a CT casino.

Cosby, the famed comedian, did not testify in his own defense, and his defense rested after calling just one repeat witness for further questioning. Legal experts and courtroom observers generally dismissed that suggestion as a bluff, perhaps created to throw the prosecutors off-balance at a time when they had momentum.

The DUP confirmed to Sky News that it has not yet agreed to back the Tories on a "confidence and supply basis" - but talks are continuing.

The defense closed by accusing Constand of lying about an affair with Cosby and concocting the allegations to take advantage of the wealthy, older star.

"Is it your decision not to testify?" asked the judge. Cosby had said before the trial he would not testify.

"Hopefully, you will have the last two words in this case, and I pray those words are not guilty", McMonagle said.

"This ain't right!" bellowed McMonagle. O'Neill asked Cosby if he discussed the issue with his attorneys and if he understood there is no obligation to testify, as the burden to prove the charges of aggravated indecent sexual assault case lies exclusively with the prosecutors.

McMonagle pointed out that Constand telephoned Cosby dozens of times after the alleged assault.

Jurors in Bill Cosby's Pennsylvania sexual assault trial are ending deliberations for the night.

The defense's main goal this past week has been to attack the credibility of Constand and the William Morris assistant, Kelly Johnson. Instead, he was intent on persuading the jury that Constand was a "lover" of the comedian - not a victim. She was stoic during the defense argument but left when it was the prosecution's turn.

She sat in the front row, across the aisle from Constand.

As they watched, Steele repeatedly asserted that, in a sense, Cosby had already confessed. For example, Cosby admitted to having bought quaaludes and given them to young women in order to have sex with them - exactly what Constand says Cosby did to her.

He added: "All the fancy lawyering you have can't get you around your own words".

"She's on the phone with lawyers before she told her mom anything", he said, his voice rising regularly in agitation.

Steele said the once-beloved Jello pitchman and "America's Dad" even referred to himself as a "dirty old man". "You treated her well. We're not here because of Andrea Constand", he said. She told you how she was awoken from this.
