It's the same approach the Buffalo Sabres, the National Hockey League team the Pegulas also own, are taking with new GM Jason Botterill.
Beane during his introductory news conference Friday spoke glowingly about his relationship with coach Sean McDermott and provided key details on how the hierarchy is going to operate.
When a reporter asked new Bills general manager Brandon Beane what his goal was for the team, Rich Donnelly says Beane told reporters: "We want to be successful".
Should the Bills return to the playoffs any time soon, it will be on the backs of a GM and coach working together. Though Bills owner Terry Pegula said Beane will have control over the 53-man roster. Each has reportedly signed a five-year contract.
On Friday morning, the Buffalo Bills officially started with the brand new regime in Orchard Park.
"When you've been with an organization for 19 years, something has to blow you away to get you to leave", Beane said. Surely, they'll avoid the coach/GM squabbles that often have undermined this franchise's chances for on-field success this century.
Beane also worked closely in Carolina with Sean McDermott.
"I'm going to hit the ground running". "It's not going to be my team, it's not going to be Sean's team". And though Whaley was involved in the search to replace Ryan, the decision to hire McDermott was made by Pegula and his wife Kim.
"There's not a czar around here", Beane said. Sean's not a czar.
'King Arthur: Legend of the Sword' Review
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword will debut in the United Kingdom on May 19 and will also bow this weekend in China. Hunnam is known for his work in the television series Sons of Anarchy as Jax Teller on FX.
"I think the primary thing was his all-around ability", Pegula said. I'm going to be over the football side.
Pegula said McDermott provided ownership with "seven or eight names" as potential general manager candidates, and Beane was among them.
Beane comes to the Buffalo Bills after working for almost two decades with the Carolina Panthers franchise.
Beane briefly served as the Panthers interim GM over the final 10 games of the 2012 season after Hurney was sacked. Not the WWE kind.
"This opportunity was too good to pass up", Beane said. "My oldest son got into wrestling a year ago, and I knew Sean was a good wrestler". Little did I know he had a wrestling mat in his house.
"He was like, 'Bring him over and we'll wrestle!' And he's got this whole - nearly a WW (E) wrestling setup ..." I've known Jim for a long time and have a lot of respect for him. "We were always talking about how to make our roster better". I'm looking forward to getting to know this process, how he does things. "I think now we have it right". From there, according to Beane, a friendship began. But I trust Sean. "We would actually run (together) on road (trips)". Sometimes we would talk about family. So it's not like Sean and I said hey, 'we're both going to leave the same year.' You don't know what the opportunities are going to be.
Indeed, they are hitched at the hip. With Tyrod Taylor deemed the team's starter, and veteran T.J. Yates likely to be kept as top backup, it would appear Peterman in training camp will battle last year's rookie, rocket-armed but scattershot Cardale Jones, to be third-stringer. The two spent the previous six seasons developing a bond with the Carolina Panthers, where Beane was the assistant GM and McDermott the team's defensive coordinator.
It's a relationship the Bills haven't had since 2001, when Tom Donahoe and Gregg Williams were paired together as GM and coach. By June 2013, all three were goners.
