President Trump tweeted a veiled threat Friday toward former FBI Director James B. Comey over possible tapes of their conversations.
Trump told Fox News in an interview he did not think an independent probe was necessary.
According to The Hill, Trump tweeted a short time after CNN ran a report on the meeting and subsequent dissemination of photos that featured a discussion about whether Russian Federation was laughing at the United States. Trump said in excerpts of an NBC News interview released Friday that Comey "should have never exonerated" Hillary Clinton.
Trump tweeted, "James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"
"That I can't talk about". "All I want is for Comey to be honest and I hope he will be and I'm sure he will be - I hope", he said.
As has happened on previous occasions since Trump took office, different versions rapidly circulated of an event - in this case phone conversations between Comey and Trump and a dinner they had at the White House.
Trump fired Comey from the FBI on Tuesday, an action that stunned both Republicans and Democrats, and caught agents at the bureau by surprise because the agency is deep into an investigation to find potentially improper links between Trump associates and Russian operatives. A sad moment for even this White House. Mr Trump also reportedly asked Mr Comey during that dinner if the FBI was investigating him personally - a question that some have said is a breach of protocol.
USA media, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, have reported differing accounts of meetings between Trump and Comey before his firing.
McIlroy to undergo test on troublesome back
Spieth birdied two of his first three holes amid calm conditions, but he gave those strokes back with bogeys on Nos. Told that no one had made eagle on both par 5s on the back nine in the opening round, McGirt didn't have an answer.
Comey has not publicly discussed any conversations he has had with Trump.
Trump fired Comey this week ostensibly because of his handling of the FBI's investigation of Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server; critics say that Trump is trying to quash the agency's investigation into potential coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign to influence the presidential election.
"It's good to be back with you", Spicer said before introducing Gen. H.R. McMaster, who gave an overview of the president's upcoming trip to the Middle East and Europe.
Comey reportedly declined to testify at a closed Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.
Even before Trump's provocative tweets, the White House was scrambling to clarify why Comey was sacked.
White House officials said Trump is considering almost a dozen candidates to replace Comey, including Texas Sen.
United States intelligence agencies concluded in January that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a campaign of interference in the election aimed at tilting the vote in Trump's favour.
Former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, Assistant Attorney General Alice Fisher, and acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe are among some of those being considered as candidates to replace Comey.
